Composite fillings are made of resin and are coloured to resemble your natural teeth. They are highly durable and unlikely to splinter, chip, or break regularly. Since composite fillings blend in with the colour of your teeth, they are ideally suited for use on teeth in the front or the back. If you prefer a more natural appearance than what you would get from traditional amalgam (silver) fillings, composite fillings are the best option for you.

Since composite fillings are more costly than traditional amalgam ones, they are not usually covered by most insurance packages. They are also slightly less durable than amalgam fillings, meaning they may need replacing in the future.

It’s important to note that composite fillings take more time than what you used for a traditional metal filling. Composite fillings require the tooth’s surface to be pristinely clean and completely dry before the filling material can be applied.

What are Composite Fillings Made Of?

Composite fillings are comprised of a material that is tooth-coloured and can be perfectly matched to your natural teeth. The material is essentially a combination of a resin consisting of acrylic that is supported by a powdered version of glass.
