Occlusal Adjustment
An occlusal adjustment is an orthodontic treatment employed to address dental problems related to misaligned teeth and incorrect bites. When any of these issues are noted by your dentist, an occlusal adjustment may be the recommended course of action.
How Will I Know if I Need an Occlusal Adjustment?
The following dental issues can be remedied through an occlusal adjustment:
- Pain
- Uneven bite pressure
- Overcrowding in the mouth leads to incorrect contact between the teeth of the upper and lower jaws
- Teeth grinding when eating, lying down, or sleeping
What is Involved in an Occlusal Adjustment?
During an occlusal adjustment, your dentist will use a dental drill to file areas of the teeth that need to be smoothed for better bite and tooth alignment. This filing is generally done to the bite surface area of the tooth. Occlusal adjustment should not be painful, but the process can be somewhat uncomfortable for you.
